Baltazar-Padilla appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court
President Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals Justice Priscilla J. Baltazar-Padilla as new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Malacañang announced Thursday night.
Baltazar-Padilla is expected to assume the SC post vacated by Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. who retired last May.
"This is to announce that Court of Appeals Justice Priscilla J. Baltazar- Padilla has been appointed as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a brief statement.
Baltazar-Padilla, a law graduate of Lyceum of the Philippines, is included in list of contenders for the SC position submitted by the Judicial Bar and Council last month.
Baltazar-Padilla, who landed in the top 10 when she took the Bar examinations, previously serve as political science professor at the Lyceum university.
JBC previously held online interviews of the justices vying for the lone vacant SC post. The Constitution states that President Duterte has 90 days to appoint Reyes’ replacement.
