The National Shrine of the Our Lady of Lourdes (NSOLL) in Quezon City announced the new date of the coronation on Tuesday, July 14.
"The canonical coronation of the venerated image of the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes will be on Aug. 22, 2020, Saturday at 9:30 a.m." NSOLL said in their Facebook page.
The coronation was originally scheduled last May 2. It was not clear why the activity was moved.
According to CBCP News, a canonical coronation is a pious institutional act, in which the Pope designates a crown or stellar halo to be added to a Marian image under a specific devotional title in a particular diocese.
It is also the highest distinction the Church grants to an image.
It was September 2019 when it was announced that Pope Francis has granted the canonical coronation to the more than century-old image of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Pope, through the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of Sacraments, issued the papal bull on Sept. 5.
The approval came nearly three months after Bishop Honesto Ongtioco requested for a canonical coronation of the 126-year-old image enthroned at the altar of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The image of the Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most venerated Marian images in the Philippines.
