Badian Highlands to spark return of tourism activities in Cebu province

CEBU CITY—A view deck, which is situated about 1,640 feet above sea level, is expected to revitalize the tourism industry in Badian town, southern Cebu.

The local government unit of Badian has introduced the Badian Highlands in time for the reopening of the tourism activities in Cebu province, which is now under modified general community quarantine except for two towns and one city.

Donald Villarin, the town’s tourism officer, announced that Badian’s newest tourist attraction was officially open to the public.

“You can have the panoramic view of Tanon Strait and the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental. It is also a good point where to take sunrise and sunset photos," Villarin said in a statement.

The view deck is a “no build zone” which means building structures will not be allowed in the area.

"We open this site for sightseeing and to those who want to walk, jog, bike and joy-ride with a view," Villarin said.

Last March 13, Badian suspended all of its tourism activities as part of the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Villarin was optimistic that, with the opening of the Badian Highland, the town will be able to recover after the tourism industry's suffered massive job and revenue loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Badian is home to several tourist attractions such as Kawasan Falls, Kadungaw Peak, Osmeña Peak and Lambug Beach.

Zipline adventures and floating cottages can also be found in the town.
