When Swedish retail giant IKEA officially announced it would be bringing its world-famous home goods and furniture, as well as its unique in-store shopping experience, here in Manila, the anticipation and excitement were undeniable.

The clip shows aerial images of the store’s construction, as well as artist renderings of how the store will look from the outside once completed. The branch, upon operational stability, is expected to attract up to 7.2 million visitors every year.

The hype it garnered was not for nothing, after all, as IKEA Manila, set to rise in Pasay City between the Mall of Asia Arena and the SMX Convention Center, is about to become the chain’s largest store in the world at 67,760 square meters.

Around 9,000 “well-designed, functional home furnishing,” and affordable products will be available for everyone, too.

Since then, excited shoppers have been waiting for any and every additional update regarding the store, including the opening date (which we now know has been moved to 2021, instead of late 2020).

Today, IKEA has shared that much-anticipated update through what looks like a first peek of the soon-to-open Manila store.

IKEA Southeast Asia and Mexico, in a LinkedIn update, has shared a video detailing the progress of their expansion in both regions, including Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines.

But perhaps the best bit of news is that despite weeks of closure due to the pandemic, the retail giant intends to meet its target of opening the store—both physical and e-commerce—by 2021. That means shoppers can enjoy the IKEA experience sooner than later.
