CEBU CITY – There has been more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) recoveries, and much less deaths despite the reported increase in the number of confirmed cases in Central Visayas, according to the latest data from the Department of Health-Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD).

Department of Health (DOH) (MANILA BULLETIN)

DOH-7 COVID-19 bulletin, as of 5 p.m. on July 10, recorded a total of 4,835 recoveries out of the confirmed cases of 11,574, for a 41.77-percent recovery rate, and only 529 deaths for Central Visayas although the number of active cases reached 6,210.

For Cebu City alone, of the 7,246 total confirmed cases, there were 3,650 recoveries and 356 deaths.

Mandaue City, with 1,205 confirmed cases, had 400 recovered and only 35 fatalities, while Lapulapu City had 1,109 confirmed cases with 303 recoveries and 29 deaths.

For Cebu Province, there were 1,907 confirmed cases with 432 recoveries and 106 deaths.

Cebu City mayor Edgardo Labella said that, since March when the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapulapu went into massive and aggressive COVID-19 rapid testing at the barangay levels, COVID-19 positives increased, but they also noted high recovery rates at 52-53 percent especially those who were asymptomatic and with mild symptoms who were admitted in barangay isolation centers and in quarantine facilities in the City.

Labella and the members of the national inter-agency task force (IATF), in its July 7 press conference, agreed that the daily increase in COVID-19 positive cases posted in Cebu City could be attributed to the aggressive rapid tests, strict enforcement of quarantine and lockdown protocols and sustained contact tracing.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Quarantine Center (CCQC) on July 10 has discharged 30 patients, who have recovered from the COVID-19 disease.  According to Cebu City Medical Center Administrator and CCQC Head Yvonne Cania, the center was still treating 60 more COVID-19 patients as of July 10.

Cania added that the CCQC, one of the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMF) established by the city government, has reported more COVID-19 recoveries in recent weeks.  It was designed to accommodate COVID-19 patients with moderate symptoms,

Patients at the center undergo rigid treatment protocol that includes medical, pharmacological and psychosocial interventions. Cania urged those who recovered from COVID-19 to share their experiences on how they were treated at the CCQC.
