BAGUIO CITY – Dubbed “Tulong Pangkabuhayan para sa ating Disadvantaged and Displaced Workers”, or TUPAD, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) implemented a financial aid program to 1,171-Baguio residents whose sources of income were lost because of the quarantine measures implemented to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Each of the beneficiaries received P3,500 for 10 days of work under the “Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko” sanitation program.
A total of P3.8-million under the program of DOLE was distributed to identified beneficiaries accompanied by barangay officials held last July 6 and 7 at the Baguio Central School gym.
The city’s Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) said 1,120 of the beneficiaries were identified by the local government in coordination with the barangays.
These included 116 night market vendors whose businesses were among the first to be halted by the local government in March, while 51-recipients of the cash aid were identified by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (PHILRECA) partylist in coordination with the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) and Member-Consumer-Owner (MCO) organizations in the different barangays.
The inclusion of beneficiaries identified by the city under the DOLE program was part of city’s initiative of Mayor Benjamin Magalong to source out whatever available assistance from concerned government agencies.
