Meralco to send 'personalized' letters to customers explaining bills computation

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will send out “personalized” letters to its customers explaining the computation of their bills.

“As a corrective measure, mag lalabas kami ng individual explanatory letter para sa lahat ng customers namin na apektado, eto yung mga nakatanggap ng May bill (we will send out individual explanatory letters to our affected customers, particularly those who received their May bilsl),” Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga told Unang Hirit.
Zaldarriaga clarified that there was no overcharging in the May bill of their customers, and that the “bill shock” was caused by their confusing presentation of the estimated and actual consumption.
“Alam po namin na medyo meron tayong pag kukulang doon, dahil di natin na identify mismo doon sa bill kung ano yung estimated at kung ano yung actual reading (We know we’re at fault because we were not able to identify in the bill which was the estimated consumption and which was the actual reading),” Zaldarriaga said.
“We have to explain one by one, kumbaga personalized for a particular account,” he added.
Zaldarriaga said the "corrective letter" will further explain the “estimated reading” which he said was the “main reason for the confusion” in the billing of their customers.
