House leaders are seeking a motu proprio investigation on Resorts World Manila management's alleged security lapses that resulted in the death of 38 people.
AKO BICOL partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe, president of the House Partylist Coalition, and Quezon City Rep. Winston “Winnie” Castelo, chairman of the House committee on Metro Manila development are set to file on Monday a resolution calling for a House probe on the deadly incident.
"We will file a resolution urging the committee on games and amusement under Rep. Gus Tambunting to look deeper into the security and operations of our casinos and entertainment centers to learn and recommend remedial legislation as a result of the unfortunate incident. We will file the resolution on Monday," Batocabe said.
Castelo said they will be filing a resolution to investigate the circumstances of the Resorts World incident, particularly security lapses on the part of the management that caused the death of 38 innocent people.
"We will urge the House committee on games and amusement to convene motu propio even on recess to give justice to those who perished needlessly with Rep. Rodel Batocabe as signatory,” he said.
Tambunting said the authorities should be given first the leeway to look into the incident and determine the motive of the lone gunman.
“Truly, the incident was terrifying. Horrible as it is, we have to defer in the meantime to our law enforcement authorities in gathering evidence to ascertain the gunman's true motive in the attack,” he said.
Leyte Rep. Yedda Marie Kittilstvedt-Romualdez sent her sympathies to the victims of the RW Manila incident.
"I stand against anyone who dares harm innocent people and cause chaos in our peaceful society,” she said.
She and her husband, Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) president Martin Romualdez also condoled with their friend, Pampanga Rep. Aurelio "Dong” Gonzales whose wife Elizabeth died from the incident.
“We join our friends with thoughts of comfort in extending our sincere sympathies to her (Elizabeth) loved ones during this very painful time. She will be included in our prayers,” they said.
“We wish that our condolences bring consolation, strength and peace to the family of Elizabeth during this painful time. We know that no words can remove the sorrow in this very sad moment and we weep the agony of such loss. May God give her eternal rest,” they added.
