OVP opens 1st free dorm for Cebu frontliners

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) opened on Monday a free dormitory in Banilad, Cebu City for health workers who are at the forefront of the country's battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Vice President Leni Robredo said the newly opened first dorm in Cebu City is located near the Cebu North General Hospital.

“Our dorm is open for health workers, medical practitioners, and other frontliners involved in offering essential services amid the COVID-19 crisis,” she said in a Facebook post.

The dormitory will serve as a temporary shelter for medical personnel and other frontliners amid the suspension of public transport brought about by the ongoing lockdown in Cebu City.

The initiative was made possible by the Office of the Vice President (OVP), in cooperation with its Angat Buhay partner, as part of its COVID-19 response operations.

The dormitory is open on a “first come, first served” basis to Cebu frontliners due to the limited space and health precautions in the facility.
Those who wish to avail of dormitory space should send their inquiries to [email protected] or 09985917408.

Apart from this project, Robredo’s office is also offering free shuttle service that serves three initial routes with two trips each in the morning and afternoon for health workers in Cebu City.

“Our schedules and routes may be subject to adjustments, based on the needs that will be seen during our pilot run,“ she said.

As of Sunday, July 6, Cebu City recorded 152 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases to 6,142.
