The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which organizes the yearly Oscars, has invited the cast and crew of the critically-acclaimed Korean film “Parasite” to join the organization.
They are among the 819 artists and executives who have been invited this year to be members of the 2020 class, which is composed of 45 percent women, 36 percent underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 49 percent international from 68 countries, the Academy announced.
“The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travelers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now,” said Academy President David Rubin.
Stars of “Parasite,” which won best picture at the 92nd Academy Awards last February, who have been invited to join the Academy are Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, Jo Yeo-jeong and Lee Jung-eun.
Song Kang-ho, star of the 2013 film “Snowpiercer,” joined the Academy in 2015 along with “Parasite” director Bong Joon-ho.
Also invited are the movie’s staff. They are costume designer Choi Se-yeon, film editor Yang Jin-mo, composer Jung Jae-il, producer Kwak Sin-ae, production designer Lee Ha-jun, sound supervisor Choi Tae-young and writer Han Jin-won.
