Truck drags low hanging wires in Indang, Cavite causes heavy traffic, power outage
By Carla Dena
INDANG, Cavite - A dump truck passing through Barangay Poblacion 3 hit and dragged the cables of an electric post, causing it to lean towards the street Monday, June 29.
(Municipality of Indang)
Barangay Kagawad on-duty Arnel Kasaysayan told Manila Bulletin the accident resulted in heavy traffic within the town proper and caused power outage in some parts of Barangay Poblacion 3.
The area where the accident happened is a major thoroughfare for motorists passing through Indang to get to neighboring municipalities.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the wires hanged low from the weight of several lines installed by internet and TV cable providers.
"Ang problema po kasi dito, yung service providers, internet, cable, naki-linya sila, nakisakay po sa poste nang may poste, so dumami po yun, eh sa dami po ng nakakabit, bumigat, medyo lumaylay po siya. (The problem is, service providers for internet and cable used the same post for their connections prompting the wires to hang low)," Local Disaster Officer Rommel Pinpin told Manila Bulletin.
MDRRMO is requesting service providers to fix their cable installation to avoid like incidents in the future.
"Ang suggestion po, maglagay na lang po muna ng early warning sign diyan sa labas ng bayan na dahan-dahan sila sa loob ng bayan dahil mababa ang kable (Our suggestion is to put a sign warning motorists to take extra care when passing through the town center due to low hanging cables)," Pinpin said.
On Monday night, Meralco fixed the leaning post as well as the electric cables affected by the accident. Traffic flow in the area has gone back to normal Tuesday morning.
