Juan Furagganan Ponce Enrile, Sr.
• Born on February 14, 1924 in Gonzaga, Cagayan
• Alfonso Ponce Enrile and Petra Furagganan (parents)
• 1949 – graduated Cum Laude from Ateneo de Manila University with an Associate of Arts
• 1949 -- Attended UP College of Law where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree
• 1953 – Placed 11th in the Bar Exams with a 91.72% rating and a perfect score in mercantile law
• 1964 – From practicing law privately and teaching law at the Far Eastern University, became in-charge of then Senator Marcos’s personal legal affairs
Career during Marcos administration
• 1966 to 1968 – Became the Undersecretary and eventually Secretary of Finance
• 1968 to 1970 – Became Secretary of Justice
• February 9. 1970 – Appointed as Secretary of National Defense
• August 27, 1971 – Resigned as Secretary of Defense and ran for the Senate
• Sept. 21, 1972 -- Declaration of martial law
• In almost the entire duration of martial law Enrile served as the administrator
• 1973 – Appointed Defense Minister
• 1986 – Together with then Lieutenant General Fidel Ramos, Enrile launches coup d’etat against Marcos sparking the EDSA Revolution
• 1987 – Elected as Senator
• 1992 – Elected as Representative of Cagayan
• 1998 – Ran for President but lost to Joseph Estrada (???)
• 1995-2001 – Elected and served as Senator
• 2004 – Made another bid for the Senate and was elected
• 2008 – Succeeded Senator Manuel Villar as Senate President
• July 26, 2010 – Reelected as Senate President
• 2012 – Presided over former Chief Justice Renato Corona’s Impeachment case
• June 5, 2013 – Resigned as Senate President
