K-pop groups EXO and TWICE were the biggest winners at the 31st Golden Disc Awards (GDA) held for two days on January 13 and 14 at the Korean International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
The first day honored artists who excelled in digital music and the second day for achievements in album.
On the first day, TWICE bagged the Song of the Year or Digital Daesang for their hit song “Cheer Up,” which became the No. 1 digital song in Korea in 2016 based on downloads, streaming and BGM sales.

TWICE also won the Digital Bonsang along with GFriend, Urban Zakapa, Suzy and Baekhyun, Zico, Mamamoo, Lee Hi, Lim Chang Jung and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.
The Best Performance Awards were given to Sechs Kies (male) and SISTAR (female) while the Best R&B Soul Award went to Crush. CNBLUE took home the Best K-pop Band Award while Gummy won the Best OST Award and Black Pink and Bolbbalgan4 grabbed the Rookie Awards.
JYJ’s Jaejoong, who was discharged from the military last December, won the Asia Popularity Award.

On the second day, EXO emerged as the winner of the Album of the Year or Disk Daesang. EXO set a record by winning the award four times from 2014 to 2017, the most by any artist.
The Disk Bonsang Awards were given to EXO, BTS, Monsta X, Seventeen, GOT7, Taemin, VIXX, SHINee and Infinite.
BTS received the Global K-pop Artist Award while their agency founder Bang Si-hyuk of Big Hit Entertainment won the Producer Award.
EXO and Red Velvet were the recipients of the CeCi Asia Icon Award and SHINee grabbed the Popularity Award. NCT 127 and I.O.I got the Rookie Awards.
