CEBU CITY— Another mass gathering reportedly took place in a barangay here which has several coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

In video clippings and photos that circulated online, some residents of Barangay Calamba were seen gathering in what was said to be a fiesta celebration last June 28.

A group of teenagers were seen dancing and having a drinking session – a activities that are prohibited under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The incident in Calamba came after a religious procession turned into a street celebration in Barangay Basak San Nicolas last Saturday night.

Mayor Edgardo Labella has instructed the City Legal Office headed by lawyer Rey Gealon to look into the incident in Calamba.

As of yesterday, Tuesday, Calamba, which is headed by Barangay Chairman Jojo Quijano, has 46 confirmed coronavirus disease cases.

Gealon said the city has already coordinated with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in finding out who should be held responsible for the blatant violation of ECQ protocols.

“It boils down to command responsibility as always. We are looking at filing criminal and administrative charges against those who will be proven to have committed negligence,” said Gealon.

Gealon said the city has already served show cause orders and notice for barangays to cease activities that violate the guidelines issued by the mayor and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
