President Duterte wants the Philippine National Police (PNP) to aggressively push the conduct of anti-illegal drugs operations amid the continuous threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa
(PNP / MANILA BULLETIN) PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa said that he brought up the issue of the drug war during the recent command conference with top police commanders. “I echoed the guidance of President Rodrigo Duterte for PNP units to seize every opportunity to be on the offensive against illegal drugs,” said Gamboa. “An all-out offensive puts the lives of our PNP personnel at risk so we must exercise all possible precaution to ensure that they are safe and that no lives are lost,” he added. More than P6 billion worth of illegal drugs have been so far seized in the series of anti-drugs operations this month. In Paranaque, a police lieutenant died after he and his men figured in a shootout with suspected drug dealers. In pushing the drug war, Gamboa said that he instructed his commanders to list down the Top 10 High-Value Targets in their respective areas of jurisdiction and subject them to intensified operations.
