In a statement, tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said she was elated by the global recognition from the world-renowned publication.
"While the world waits for international travel to resume, citations such as these will greatly help keep The Philippines in the bucket lists of travelers everywhere,” she said.
Taking the 20th spot this year, Hidden Beach was described by author and award-winning travel journalist Lizzie Pook as a piece of paradise concealed by “imposing limestone cliffs and with startlingly bone-white sand separated from the turquoise ocean by a small keyhole-like opening” where visitors could visit through climbing the small keyhole-like opening formed by the cliffs to access the mesmerizing lagoon.
In her piece, Pook also said that Palawan itself is filled with pristinely beautiful attractions. In fact, the municipality of El Nido, according to other acclaimed travel writers, is highly recommended by locals and international tourists as a top choice when visiting the Philippines, as it offers fine white sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, stunning limestone formations, among others.
El Nido is also a gateway to Bacuit Archipelago which houses 45 islands and islets.
In 2019, the CNT also featured Boracay Island as its top island destination in Asia. Cebu and the Visayas Islands, as well as Palawan, placed second and fourth, respectively.
The Philippines was also named recently as one of the “Rising Stars in Travel” by Forbes Magazine among six other countries that “have potential to become a major tourist destinations in a post-COVID world.”
