The anti-illegal fishing seaborne patrol teams also confiscated illegal fishing paraphernalia.
In a flash report to the Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) here, the Sta Monica Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Surigao del Norte conducted seaborne patrol in the vicinity of Barangay Tangbo of Sta. Monica, which resulted in the arrest of four illegal fishermen who were caught in-the-act of using fishing gear locally known as “boso”.
Sta. Monica seaborne patrol confiscated a pump boat, and other illegal fishing paraphernalia from the suspects.
On the other hand, the Libjo MPS in Dinagat Islands province responded to a report about an on-going illegal fishing activity in the waters off Barangay Plaridel, also in Sta. Monica, that resulted in the arrest of four other suspects in the act of using ”boso”.
Confiscated from them were a pump boat, compressor tank, two pairs of improvised flippers locally known as “kapay” or “yapak”, two spear guns (pana), and a long rubber tube more or less 45 meters.
The suspects are now under investigation for their involvement in illegal fishing.
PRO 13 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr. urged the fishermen to adhere to the provisions of the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 and all local ordinances protecting the marine life.
“These anti-illegal fishing operations are part of our implementation of PNP Master Plan ‘Sangyaman’ that aims to help protect and preserve our environment, cultural properties, and natural resources,” the police chief added.
