Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has ordered the extension of the lockdown at H. Monroy Street at Barangay Navotas West to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday (June 24).
Tiangco signed Executive Order No. TMT-034, series of 2020 ordering the lockdown extension on Saturday (June 20). The order took effect on Sunday (June 21).
This came after 49 residents tested positive for coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) using rapid testing, while one tested positive using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
"Para sa kaligtasan at kapakanan ng ating mamamayan, minabuti na po nating i-extend ang ating lockdown para makumpleto ng mga residente sa nasabing lugar, lalo na ang mga nag-positibo sa rapid test, ang kanilang 14-araw na quarantine (For the safety and welfare of the residents, we decided to extend the lockdown so that the residents of the area, especially those who tested positive in the rapid test, can complete their 14-day quarantine)," Tiangco wrote in a Facebook post.
"Muli po, nagpapaalala po kami na seryosohin po natin ang panganib ng COVID-19. Pami-pamilya na ang nagkakahawaan. 'Wag tayong maging kampante kahit malakas ang ating pangangatawan. Meron tayong mga kasama sa bahay tulad ng ating mga magulang o asawang buntis o mga anak na madaling mahawaan ng virus (Again, we are reminding you to take the dangers of COVID-19 seriously. Families are infecting each other. Let us not be complacent even if we have strong bodies. We have companions in our homes like our parents, pregnant wives, or children, who can easily catch the virus)," the city mayor stressed.
The street has been under lockdown since June 11. The lockdown was originally scheduled to be lifted by June 15, but it was extended to June 20.
