Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA) General Manager Christopher Pizarro, who rushed to the scene, told The Manila Bulletin there was only minimal water damage during the 15-minute fire that was suspected to have been caused when electrical wirings of the signage of the building short-circuited.
All 25 office personnel inside the building were safely evacuated at the parking area, and returned to their respective offices after the fire was quickly put out after 15 minutes.
Initial investigation conducted by the Orani Fire Station led by ground commander SF04 Rusoler Tayag revealed that at around 6:45 p.m., security guards on duty Jaylord Catipay and Joshua Michael Jordan noticed an electrical spark that led to the fire at the huge 1Bataan signage at the facade of the 1Bataan Command Center building.
Outgoing security guard Ringor immediately turned off the circuit breaker and immediately informed the MBDA Command Center to alert the fire department about the incident.
The incident report said fire personnel arrived after 15 minutes, and quickly put out the fire. Damage assessment made showed that the water damage was restricted to a few boxes of instant noodles and canned goods from the storage area containing relief goods for distribution to the different barangays in Bataan.
The 1Bataan Command Center is the headquarters of the MBDA. Other government agencies holding offices there are the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and a satellite office of the Department of Health (DOH) related to the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19.
