By Jonathan Hicap The Muntinlupa City government has approved an ordinance regulating the operation of the Alabang public market after concerns were raised over the influx of people and implementation of physical distancing rules to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). (Photo by Muntinlupa PIO) Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed Ordinance No. 2020-103 that will schedule the days when residents from Muntinlupa’s two districts and non-residents can buy goods at the public market. Under the new schedule, the Alabang public market will be open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday with Monday designated for disinfection of stalls and other areas. Residents of District 1 composed of Barangays Tunasan, Poblacion, Bayanan and Putatan, and non-Muntinlupa residents can go to the public market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, while District 2 residents from Alabang, Cupang, Sucat, Ayala Alabang and Buli can buy goods on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Persons entering the market may present an ID that bears their address. Wearing of face masks and physical distancing will be strictly enforced. Each market stall is required to place a clear barrier between the vendor and customer. Any market store or stall found violating the ordinance will be penalized with closure, suspension or revocation of business permit or license. The Muntinlupa City Public Market earlier sent a letter to the Muntinlupa City Council to express its concern over the influx of people entering the Alabang public market and the implementation of physical distancing when the city was placed under GCQ.
