Endangered green sea turtle found dead in Puerto Princesa, Palawan

A 90-kilo green sea turtle was found dead in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Monday, June 7.
In a Facebook post of Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), the turtle was found dead with a bow shot on its head in Nagtabon Beach, Brgy. Bacungan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
The turtle has a total length of 60 centimeters (including its tail), with a body width of 50 centimeters and a carapace measuring 29 centimeters. PCSD said that G. Adel Pancho, Purok president of Brgy. Bacungan, found the turtle dead while floating in the sea.
A concerned citizen Alfie Aladin Cornel reported the incident on the Facebook page of PCSD. It was believed that the turtle had been dead for almost two to three days when it was discovered. G. Richard Bermudez, a fisherman, buried it near the beach front area.
According to the Brgy. official Marlon Balmores, their village is saddened about the death of the sea turtle in the hands of the people who should have been taking care of it.
PCSD said the Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) is among the endangered species according to Resolution No. 15-521. It is also protected under the Republic Act No. 9147 or also called the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
