TACLOBAN City - The Department of Health (DOH-8) has confirmed the first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case in this city on Wednesday.

Patient EV 46 is a 29-year-old old female seafarer who arrived on June 1 through a chartered flight (Z2 8611). She is currently undergoing home isolation.

In a media interview, City Administrator Atty. Aldrin Quebec, said that they only have a 94-bed capacity in their isolation facilities that cannot accommodate over 1,500 returning residents who registered with the city health office (CHO) under the Balik-Tacloban program.

Instead of bringing them to isolation facilities, asymptomatic individuals will be placed under home quarantine.

He assured the public that the houses of the returning residents are being checked by the City Health Officer prior to their return if they are suitable for home quarantine.

Another returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) is Leyte's 13th COVID-19 patient. Patient EV 47 is a 27-year-old male from Tolosa, Leyte. He arrived in Tacloban City on May 25 via flight PR 4987 and is now in isolation.
