Metro Cebu doing well under GCQ – PRO-7 head

By Calvin Cordova CEBU CITY — The top official of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) said Metro Cebu has been generally peaceful since the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ). Police Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro observed how disciplined the Cebuanos were when it came to observing health protocols. Ferro also praised how the malls’ security officers were enforcing the health security measures like ensuring proper physical distancing. “Actually, I was highly impressed with the cooperation showed by the Cebuanos. If you go to the malls, there are really markings, there’s one-way in and one-way out. It is nice to see that they are really conscious in observing safety protocols,” added Ferro. Ferro said traffic has also not been that heavy even if more private vehicles were already allowed on the streets. “The traffic as what I have observed has been light to moderate and we hope to have a more manageable traffic condition,” added Ferro. While there were still no passenger jeepneys allowed to ply the streets of Metro Cebu under GCQ, the PRO 7 has deployed some of its vehicles to transport stranded commuters. “Even during the ECQ starting last March, we have been offering free rides. We prioritize senior citizens and those who are pregnant,” said Ferro. With a more relaxed community quarantine, Ferro said he has instructed police offices in the region not to be complacent to avoid any untoward incidents from happening.
