Thirty one residents of Barangay Baclaran in Parañaque City tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This was after the city government initiated rapid testing during a three-day calibrated lockdown two weeks ago.
Dr. Darius Sebastian, chief of CESU, reported that 31 out of 754 residents who underwent rapid testing have tested positive for the dreaded disease.
Barangay Baclaran has the most number of COVID-19 cases with 42, followed by Barangay San Dionisio with 36 cases and Barangay San Antonio with 25 cases, as of Wednesday, June 3.
The crowded barangay was placed under calibrated lockdown last May 20 in an effort to contain the virus.
To date, the city health office tallied 86 confirmed cases in Barangay Baclaran, 40 patients recovered and four fatalities.
“We are satisfied with the rapid testing results in Baclaran, which shows that transmission in the ten sitios is gradual. We are expecting a higher number of positive cases for the disease in the area,” Sebastian said.
With the imposition of the lockdown, around 8,000 residents of the 10 sitios in Barangay Baclaran were forced to stay home, paving way for the targeted rapid mass testing of select individuals.
Sebastian said that those who tested negative for the virus will be transferred to a health facility and now undergoing a 14-day quarantine.
