The main distinction between a tornado and a waterspout is that a tornado occurs over land, while a waterspout occurs over water.
Earth sciences organization EarthShakerPH said a waterspout is a weather system that descends from a cumulus cloud.
"The water inside a waterspout is formed from the condensation in the cloud. It is often associated with severe thunderstorms," it added.
