The government will offer online application and issuance of driver's licenses and motor vehicle registration as part of its digitalization efforts to improve public service, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade announced Thursday.

In a public briefing with President Duterte Thursday night, Tugade said the driver's licenses and motor vehicle plates will also be delivered through couriers to the residences of the applicants.
"Alam niyo ho ba, ‘yung lisensya ngayon pupunta ka sa LTO doon mo kukunin? Ngayon, minsan ‘yung address nila problema ho ‘yan, hindi totoo. Magkakaroon ho kami ng online issuance and application (You know, you go to the LTO to get your licenses rights? Now, sometimes the home address given are not true. We will have the online issuance and application)," he said in his remarks aired on state television.
"In addition to that, ‘yung mga lisensya at plaka, ‘yung renewal ng plaka at lisensya hindi ka na ho pupunta, plano namin, sa LTO offices. Ide-deliver ho ‘yon ng courier," he added.
Tugade said the delivery service for licenses and car plates would help verify if the home addresses listed in the application forms are genuine.
"This is one way also of making sure that the addresses doon sa mga na-issue ng lisensya ay totoo. Kasi ang nangyayari ho ngayon ‘pag nagkakaroon ho tayo ng problema sa kalsada at hahanapin mo ‘yung address, wala ho doon. So mayroon hong mga programang ganun," he said. (This is one way of making sure that the addresses of license holders are real. Because with what's happening now, when we have some road issues, you find no one in the home address. So we will have this program)," he said.
At present, applicants must visit the LTO office for the applications, renewals and registrations of driver's licenses and motor vehicles. An online appointment system to schedule renewals has already been put in place.
