By Genalyn Kabiling Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and four other Cabinet members recently made a combined cash donation of P1.26 million to the government's coronavirus response. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea (Malacañang Photo Bureau / MANILA BULLETIN) Medialdea, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado, and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. are among the donors identified in President Duterte's ninth weekly report to Congress released by the Palace on Monday. The President's report included a summary of domestic cash donations received by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) from the government sector as of May 21. In the report, Medialdea made a cash donation of P273,165.10 to the OCD last April 30. The same amount of donation was given by Nograles and Cusi on the same day. Esperon gave P176,164.15 to the OCD on April 30, while Avisado donated P273,170 last May 11. Last April, Nograles announced that many Cabinet members pledged to donate 75 percent of their monthly salary for the coronavirus response. Some officials in the executive branch even offered to donate a large chunk of their salary until December this year, he said. In the President's list of donors, the cash donations received by OCD from the government sector reached P31.4 million as of May 21. The Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel so far made the biggest donation of P16.9 million to the OCD last May 15. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel turned over a P7.1 million donation to the OCD last May 11. The National Transmission Commission gave a P3 million donation to the Philippine National Red Cross last April 26. The National Intelligence Coordinating Agency personnel also donated P1 million to the OCD last April 11. Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad of the OCD made a P100,000 donation to the government while former OCD Assistant Secretary Kristoffer Purisima donated P50,000. Two anonymous donors from the government gave P688,600 and P20,000, respectively last month.
