By Joseph Almer Pedrajas The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) on Saturday said that they will be accepting 3,500 more freshmen students for academic year 2020-2021. The university made the announcement on their Facebook page, noting that this will allow them to accommodate a total of 5,000 new students for the upcoming school year. PLM said that they are doing this to give opportunity to applicants whose admission exams had been initially cancelled due to the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine. They are set to take an online exam on June 11. After then, the university has to identify the new batch of qualified enrollees. "Another set of 500 candidates have been waitlisted. will be considered during the next round of rankings to include the last batch of examinees this June," the university said. 'New Normal' This year's batch should expect to undergo a 'new normal' education system, PLM said. " tapping blended learning strategies through virtual and out-of-classroom lectures in keeping with physical distancing guidelines," it explained, adding that they will also consider flexible learning arrangements to cater to more students through online solutions. Passers PLM said that most of its current passers were the ones who chose to stick to their senior high school academic tracks: 62.3 percent of them enrolled under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics strand, 20.96 percent under the Accountancy, Business and Management strand, while 10.62 percent under the Humanities and Social Sciences strand. "One-fourth of successful examinees come from the rest of Metro Manila, while 14 percent or 700 passers reside outside the National Capital Region," the university said. PLM noted that its "increasing number of students from outside Manila" only shows that it is "a university of choice among Filipino youth."
