Screenwriter Manuel Buising passes away

Screenwriter Manuel Buising passed away on Monday, May 18. He was 69.

Buising was a multi-awarded playwright, fictionist, and comics writer. He was the official screenplay writer of Fernando Poe Jr. until the actor died in 2005. Buising wrote stories behind some of the hit movies of Poe such as the original "Ang Probinsyano," "Alamat ng Lawin," and "Isang Bala Ka Lang Part II."

Buising also wrote plays like "Kung Bakit May Nuno sa Punso" and "Patay-Bata."

His writing prowess earned him multiple recognition from the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in various fields ranging from dramatic plays, short stories, and television plays. Some of his works have appeared in Liwayway and Pilipino Reporter.

He also worked as a member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Buising, who was an alumnus of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), also served as the university's publication "Ang Hasik" during the martial law era.
