Through the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita, farm products are bought on a wholesale basis from farmers and retailed to consumers at affordable prices, allowing more public access to fresh produce during the COVID-19 quarantine.
DA Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Noel Reyes said during a virtual presser on May 21, Thursday, that the program's three platforms catered to the different needs of consumers, namely Kadiwa Retail (P20.6 million), Kadiwa On Wheels (P18.13 million), and Kadiwa Online (P5.43 million).
About 59,664.4 metric tons (MT) of agricultural produce worth P2.95 million had been brought to the National Capital Region, said DA Assistant Secretary Kristine Evangelista. She said that the Kadiwa activities in various regions also translated to total sales of P156.21 million.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-led Seafood Kadiwa on Wheels sold 7,425 MT of seafoods worth P1.53 million, while the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority-led Kadiwa isDA on the Go sold 36,967 MT of fish worth P7.82 million.
Reyes said 442 agri-fishery cooperatives participated in the Kadiwa activities, composed of 14,864 farmer-beneficiaries from major trading posts Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal and Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center.
Likewise, he estimated that 970,747 households so far have been served in Metro Manila alone.
Reyes appealed to authorities to ensure the unhampered movement of all cargoes, agriculture and fishery inputs, food products, and agribusiness personnel nationwide.
"The delivery of goods continues. We have a stable supply of food in the markets enough to meet the public's requirements. Don't panic, just buy what you need at the moment because we have enough supply in our markets," he said.
