CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Workers in the private and public sectors here were afforded free rides to their work place that were provided by the provincial and local governments here, starting Monday, May 18.

The free rides will be given from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the use of barangay mobile units, and other vehicles of the municipal, city and provincial offices.
According to Governor Dennis Pineda, the “Libreng Sakay (free ride)” program was undertaken to spur the local economy by bringing private and public workers to their workplace.
Mass transportation is still not allowed under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) scheme.
Pineda also encouraged private companies to provide shuttles for their employees to help in their transport from home to work places.
Those who will avail of the government’s free rides must present their company IDs, and observe the wearing of masks and safe distancing.
The vehicles that will be provided may only be used at 50 percent of its passenger capacity.
Meanwhile to prepare the transport system in Pampanga, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office is encouraging public utility vehicle operators to fill out as early as possible their online application for special permits to operate.
“Yung mga interested po na public utility (vehicle) operators magaapply po sila through our online facility, tapos para mabigyan po sila ng special permit, yun lamang po ang pwedeng magoperate ,” said LTFRB Region III Chief Transportation Development Officer Theresa Magtoto.
To maximize transport system, LTFRB will prioritize public utility buses in the granting of special permits.
“Ang priority po natin dito ay yung mga buses para po ma-maximize yung sasakyan, mas maraming makakasakay, mas maiimplement po natin yung social distancing [Our priority here are buses to maximize transportation, more can avail the service and we can implement the social distancing),” Magtoto added.
