The Mandaluyong City Public Information Office (PIO) said that they believe that the rise in the number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an effect of the local government’s intensified mass testing efforts.

In a Facebook post Friday, the Mandaluyong City government said that mass testing is being conducted to identify who from among the suspected cases are positive for COVID-19.

Once the city government has this information, immediate measures and treatment can then be done for COVID-19 patients to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Based on information gathered as of 4 p.m. of May 15, Mandaluyong currently has 536 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1,172 suspect cases, 48 deaths, and 47 suspected death cases.

Meanwhile, there have been 175 recoveries while 1,056 have been cleared.

The Mandaluyong PIO said that there might be some discrepancy between the data that they have released with that of the Department of the Health (DOH).

This, the Mandaluyong PIO said, is because some of documents on COVID-19 cases were still to be transmitted to the DOH as of the said FB posting.
