The Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna was inspected Thursday by the National Task Force on COVID-19 for its transformation into a mega quarantine facility for the isolation and treatment of COVID-19 patients from the Southern Tagalog Region, particularly Laguna Province.
Alonte Sports Arena will be transformed into a makeshift hospital with bed cubicles, nursing stations, sanitation chambers, and designated storage areas, according to the DPWH.
Works for the repurposing of the sports arena will start next week and expected to be completed within seven working days, the department, which will lead the construction, added.
The site will be the 10th mega quarantine facility provided by the government under its Bayanihan to Heal as One program to counter the coronavirus disease.
National Task Force COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., together with Public Works and Highways undersecretary Emil Sadain, and DPWH COVID-19 coordination committee vice chair John Dominic Pulido, led the inspection of the sports venue Thursday.
Members of the DPWH Task Force, including Bureau of Construction director Eric Ayapana, Bureau of Design director Aristarco Doroy, and DPWH Region IV-A assistant regional director Jovel Mendoza, and Laguna 2nd District engineer Juliana Vergara were also present during the site inspection to provide technical recommendations for the construction of the facility.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infection Diseases donated surgical masks, rapid testing kits, and personal protective equipment to the Binan local government on the same day.
