1st COVID-19 case reported in Camarines Norte

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The province of Camarines Norte has recorded its first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case, the Department of Health (DOH) Bicol said.

DOH Bicol Regional Director Dr. Ernie Vera said that the first case of COVID-19 in Camarines Norte was a 45-year old Filipino male from Labo town.

Vera said that the patient had first experienced symptoms on April 27, and consulted at Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital on May 4, 2020.

The patient is currently admitted while his history of exposure was still being established.

Meanwhile, Vera also said that Camarines Sur has also recorded its newest COVID-19 case.

“A 41-year old Filipino male from Tigaon, Camarines Sur is the 60th confirmed case of COVID-19 in the region. His onset of illness was on March 26, 2020. He consulted on May 5, 2020. Swab was facilitated by Camarines Sur Provincial Health Office. His exposure is for verification,” Vera said.

Vera disclosed that the total number of COVID-19 cases in Bicol was now at 61 after two new cases were recorded on Monday.

Albay has the highest number of coronavirus cases, as of April 11, with 49 cases; Camarines Sur has 10 cases, the provinces of Catanduanes and Camarines Norte have one case each.

“The public is strongly advised to strictly follow community quarantine procedures as well as precautionary measures including proper handwashing, social distancing, cough etiquette, disinfection of commonly used objects, healthy lifestyle and to stay at home. Everyone’s cooperation is crucial in this time of crisis,” Vera narrated.
