BIR issues post-lockdown work schedule to maximize tax collection

By Jun Ramirez The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has come up with a new work schedule for all officials and employees nationwide to maximize tax collection efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) has announced that the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the metropolis and other key cities will be replaced on May 16 with a general community quarantine (GCQ) allowing the resumption of some economic activities. In a memorandum, BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay said that when the GCQ is adopted, officials and employees may report for work four days a week. But the working hours will be increased to 10 hours per day to complete the 40 hours work schedule per week. Revenue officials said the work arrangement is beneficial to the clientele giving them maximum time to get the documents they are seeking for in a day or two. It will also enhance taxmen's jobs of raising more revenues during this period of great economic hardship.
