The kitchen has never been busier now, with the lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak that has led people to bring out their inner chefs.

Vice President Leni Robredo is one of those who has just done that. She has been cooking meals and other treats for her three daughters at home.

Robredo said that one thing that came out of the enhanced community quarantine is having time with her family.

“[This is] something na na-e-enjoy ko ngayon kasi matagal na hindi ko na-enjoy ‘yung pagluto,” she said in an interview on Instagram.

(This is something I’m enjoying right now because I haven’t enjoyed cooking for a long time.)

The vice president said she used to cook in her hometown of Naga City before she entered politics in 2013.

Yet, the widow of Interior secretary Jesse Robredo, with whom she has three daughters, Aika, Tricia, Jillian, has missed home cooking so much she wants to do it again.

“Recently, madalas ako magluto. Nagluluto ako kapag maaga ako. (Recently, I’ve been cooking. I cook when I come home early),” Robredo said.

”Noong nasa Congress ako, noong VP, parati ako nakakauwi gabi na, pero ngayon on the average mga 6 o’ clock in the evening nasa bahay na ako, so mag-rerequest iyong mg bata (When I was in Congress, when I became VP, I always go home late, but now on the average around 6 o’ clock in the evening I’m already at home, so my children will make a request,” she said.

The relief work of the Office of the Vice President has been eating much of Robredo’s time since the ECQ took effect on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Her office has raised public donations for the procurement of protective gear for health workers, and provided shuttle service, food packs, medical suppliers, and dormitories for other frontliners, in cooperation with the private sector.

Apart from cooking, Robredo said she has also spent her time watching Youtube videos about folding clothes and coronavirus.

“Maraming makikita online na very informative para sa atin (There is a lot of things online that are very informative to us),” she said.
