Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr., citing a report from the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO), said on Sunday, May 3, that a total of 1,536 citizens have been arrested in the province’s eight districts in the first two days of the extended ECQ enforcement.
The arrests involved residents who defied the 24-hour curfew, the mandatory wearing of face masks, and other rules set for the May 1 to 15 ECQ.
The PPO report showed that the biggest number of arrests were made in the neighboring cities or districts of Imus and Bacoor, which have the most number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the province.
The report revealed that Imus had 287 and Bacoor 253, out of the 1,536 arrested in the province.
At third was General Trias City with 213 arrested. Maragondon and Naic, two neighboring municipalities in eighth district, were in fourth and fifth with 135 and 106 persons arrested, respectively.
There was no report of arrest in General Emilio Aguinaldo-Bailen and Magallanes, the eighth district's two neighboring municipalities which have remained COVID-19-free.
The provincial government of Cavite earlier called on the public to observe the 24-hour curfew and other rules being enforced in the extended ECQ.
Remulla said earlier the strict rules under what he called calibrated community quarantine (CCQ) apply to everyone---whether rich or poor.
CCQ started at 12:01 a.m. of May 1 and will end at 5 a.m. on May 15.
“Lahat tayo Kabitenyo. Lahat tayo pantay sa mata ng batas, Hinde bakuna ang salapi laban sa COVID-19,” Remulla said in a message post. (We are all Caviteño. We are all equal in the eye of the law. Money is not the vaccine against COVID-19.)
