A City University of Pasay (CUP) College of Law graduate vowed to continue serving the city after passing the 2019 Bar Examinations.
In an interview, Gilda Laigo, a 43-year old mother of four, disclosed that hard work, perseverance, discipline, and a lot of prayers paved the way for her success.
Laigo previously worked for a foreign airline company and served as an employee of the Pasay City Hall during the term of former Mayor Tony Calixto. She also holds a master’s degree in special education.
Asked on what was her motivation was to study law, she said that she pursued law to gain better opportunities for her family.
Presently, Laigo is the person-in-charge of the CUP’s bar review program. She disclosed that she intends to continue assisting this project of the city government even after taking her oath as lawyer.
Meanwhile, Andre Belgica, a 34-year-old public school teacher, expressed that he is still shocked over the jubilant news. He shared that “prayer is one of the key ingredients for his success.”
Belgica also expressed gratitude to CUP, which paved the way for him to achieve his dream of becoming a lawyer. He said the school provided him with quality yet affordable education. It is likewise conveniently situated near his home in Paranaque.
Finally, Angelito Sabando, divulged that he remains in cloud nine after learning of the bar results. Sabando is currently an underbar associate at Gialogo Dela Fuente & Associates.
The City University of Pasay was founded in 1994 to provide education to the less-privileged yet deserving students of the city and to others that meet the school’s admission requirements.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said that the city government will continue funding the school to provide the most cost-efficient education to its constituents.
“We will not waver on our commitment to provide the best education to our students,” she said.
Atty. Severo C. Madrona Jr., Dean of the CUP School of Law congratulated the new bar passers.
"As they are ‘iskolar ng bayan,’ we expect our new CUP lawyers to continue serving the people by assisting them in their quest for justice, truth and freedom,” he said.
Dean Madrona also announced that the CUP College of Law hopes to produce more lawyers. In line with this, he said that the CUP is continuously introducing innovations. He said that the school is soon launching bar review program to adequately prepare the students for the next bar examinations.
