Philippine Medical Association launches online consultation

By Gabriela Baron The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) has launched an online consultation for the benefit of patients who could not visit their doctors during the national health emergency triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Docph.org is a free online consultation facility that aims to help ease the huge numbers of patients flocking to hospitals and seeking assistance from healthcare system. READ MORE: DOH launches free phone consultation for Metro Manila residents Upon visiting the website, PMA Vice President Benito Atienza said patients will be required to answer 12 questions about their medical history. "The patients can visit the website, and click the button for consultations. There will be 12 questions to be asked on medical history," Atienza said Wednesday in an interview on DzBB. Patients will then be contacted through Docph's Facebook Messenger account or via telephone. "Pwede ho kami magbigay ng reseta through Messenger at tinatanggap naman po 'yon sa mga botika. Katulad ko po, pediatrician, minsan po ang bata may rashes, may kaunting ubo o sipon na hindi naman kailangang dalhin sa ospital (We can give receipt through Messenger and pharmacies do accept it. As a pediatrician, I normally encounter children who have rashes or slight cough or cold that don't need to be taken to the hospital)," Atienza added. "Also, makakapagpayo na rin po kami kung may nararamdaman na ang pasyente. Halimbawa po kailangan ng obstetrician, may maire-refer po namin sila sa ospital kung saan malapit na nakatira (We can also give them advice. For example, if they are looking for an obstetrician, we can refer them to a hospital near them.)" At least 100 members of the PMA have joined the online platform. Atienza added that they are still looking to have more doctors on board. "One hundred plus pa lang po kami. Ang target po namin 1,000 doctors, kaya po nananawagan po kami sa lahat ng kasamahan na sumali. Protected naman po ang privacy nila rito, kasi meron pong sariling account ang Docph.org for the consultation (We're just a hundred plus. Our target is to recruit 1,000 doctors, so we call on our colleagues to join us. We can assure that their privacy is protected here, as Docph.org has its own account for consultation)," Atienza said. Docph. targets to operate on a 24/7 basis. However, for now, patients may seek online consultation from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Questions can still be sent beyond 9 p.m. but queries will be answered when the online clinic opens the next day.
