Google marks 50th Earth Day, hails bee's vital role

By Richa Noriega On the 50th celebration of Earth Day, Google has dedicated its doodle to one of the smallest yet significant contributors to the environment: the bees. (GOOGLE / MANILA BULLETIN) (GOOGLE / MANILA BULLETIN) Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to raise awareness about environmental protection. Google has partnered with The Honeybee Conservancy, a non-profit based in New York organization, to develop a game that features a bee doing its important task of pollinating flowers. “Today we celebrate our planet and one of its smallest, most critical organisms: The Bee,” Google said. The users can use their keyboard mouse to navigate the bee’s movement in pollinating flowers as well as in unlocking information about bees and their importance to Earth. The Google Doodle is a special one-day alteration of the logo on Google’s homepages intended to commemorate holidays, events, and notable historical figures.
