Marcelliano Desamito Jr. reported that incumbent barangay kagawad Ernesto De Vera Jr., 45, and Romeo Nepales, 62, were caught in the act of collecting extortion money at a barangay checkpoint in Barangay Palapar Norte from every vehicle transporting chicken at around 5:20 p.m. last April 8. More than P26,000 were seized from them. On the same day in Barangay Lareg Lareg, Desamito’s men, together with operatives from the Provincial Intelligence Unit, led by Lt. Col. Reynaldo Lizardo, swooped down on civilian volunteers Dionisio Garcia, 62, and Amador Serafica, 53, who were also caught in-the-act of extorting from motorists at a barangay checkpoint. Aside from some barangay documents, also confiscated from them were P3,090 which were believed to have been the proceeds from their extortion operation. The suspects and confiscated items were brought to the Malasiqui police station for proper disposition.
