CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, IMUS, Cavite – Two persons reportedly died over the weekend in crime incidents in the cities of Bacoor and General Trias. this province.
One was a victim of a stabbing on Friday in Bacoor, while the other was a victim of shooting on Saturday in General Trias.
The suspect in the stabbing incident, a young man, was arrested by the authorities.
The incidents transpired and the arrest were made amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) being enforced in the areas.
The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) reported the incidents on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12.
One of the victims was identified as Christopher Bardilas Santiago, 43, a resident of Block 14, Lot 18 Dove Street, Camella Springville East I, Bacoor City.
The identity of the victim in General Trias has yet to be verified.
The Bacoor police said that Santiago was stabbed by Reymark Reyes Bartolay, 20, who was arrested in an operation the same day.
Staff Sergeant Mark Francis D.C. Cortez, case investigator, said that the incident occurred at Pechayan Nazareth Compound in Barangay Molino III at 12:30 noon Friday.
Initial investigation conducted by Cortez showed that Santiago was merely walking in an alley in the compound when Bartolay approached him from behind, and suddenly stabbed him several times.
Bartolay, who lives in the compound, fled with the weapon, and was nabbed by police and barangay tanods (village watchmen) in the operation that ensued.
What drove Bartolay to stab Santiago was not immediately known.
In his report, investigator Cortez said that a murder charge was being readied against Bartolay who was detained at the Bacoor police custodial facility.
The victim in General Trias was reportedly shot by a still unidentified assailant in Alingaro village on Saturday morning.
The victim succumbed to bullet wounds after running and falling on the ground several meters from the shooting scene, police said.
The assailant fled, bringing with him the gun.
The shooting happened as the victim and the assailant were having an argument, police said.
