The Far Eastern University-Alabang is lending its basketball court and locker rooms as an extension facility for the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa.

RITM is one of the country's primary laboratories for testing of COVID-19 results. FEU Alabang is located right next to it.

FEU will also provide free food for the entire RITM workforce from May 1 to 7.

The gym will house 50 beds separated into male and female sections, a 12-seater lounge area, separated shower, toilet, and locker facilities for men and women.

"FEU Alabang is doing everything it can to support RITM by offering our gym to be a temporary living space for their frontliners. We have ensured that protocols are in place and have adhered to the guidelines set forth by the medical facility. We will continue to do our part as members of this community," FEU Alabang senior executive director Benson Tan said in a statement.

To ensure that the gym is safe for occupants, each person will be disinfected with a body misting spray and foot bath, scanned for body temperature, and required to wash hands or sanitize before entering the facility.

FEU Alumni Relations Office, Nicanor Reyes Memorial Foundation, and the Volunteerism Services Office are also working together to help the initiative. The groups are collecting donations from alumni and student groups to provide food packs consisting of three square meals and snacks for RITM health frontliners and partner hospitals of FEU.
