Muntinlupa makes wearing of face masks mandatory

The Muntinlupa City government has required everyone to wear face masks at all times and observe physical distancing as the number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city surged to 41.

City Ordinance 2020-083 was passed by the City Council on March 30 and signed by Mayor Jaime Fresnedi on April 1 as an added measure under the enhanced community quarantine imposed by the government.
The ordinance mandates that “every person is required to wear face masks at all times, especially when going outside of their residence, at the workplace, when entering government buildings and offices, and while in public places.”
It recommends that anyone can use the recommended face masks by the Department of Health such as surgical masks and N95 masks, reusable and washable face masks, or “any cloth that can cover the nose, mouth, and chin.” It said the city government will distribute face masks to residents.
The ordinance also requires everyone to observe stringent physical distancing of at least 1 meter from other people.
Those who will violate the ordinance will be required to attend community service or awareness campaigns on COVID-19 for at least 3 hours to be conducted by barangays or other local government offices.
For the second and succeeding violations, offenders will be strictly prohibited from leaving their residence during the remaining period of the enhanced community quarantine except during an emergency situation or when they are in imminent danger.
The Muntinlupa City government announced that as of April 1, there are 41 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city including four deaths, up from 34 on March 31.
Bgy. Ayala Alabang still has the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 14, including three deaths, followed by Putatan with eight, including one death in Soldiers’ Hills, Lower Putatan, La Charina, Express View Villas, South Greenheights, and Country Homes Subdivision.
Alabang Hills Village in Cupang has four cases, the same number in Poblacion in Katarungan Village, Camella, and the government mass housing project at Southville 3.
Tunasan has three positive cases in Ridgeview, Villa Carolina I and Sitio Salvacion, while Sucat also has three in Purok 2 and 3, and a condominium building. Bayanan has two cases in Purok 1 and Upper Bayanan, and Alabang has two cases at Filinvest and Ilaya, while Buli has one case.
The city government also reported that 173 persons under monitoring and 39 patients under investigation have been cleared of the virus.
