'COVID-19 crisis teaches us many lessons' --- Sen. Manny Pacquiao
By Mario B Casayuran
The current COVID-19 crisis gives us the opportunity to devote quality time to our families and cherish happy memories with friends, boxing icon Senator Emmanuel D. Pacquiao said on Monday.

‘’Kaya pagkatapos ng lock down na ito, we should learn to humble ourselves na (that) it is not the material things that we should crave for. It is our relationship with God and the happy memories and the legacy that we will leave to our children,’’ he said. (After this lockdown, we should…)
Pacquiao underwent a self-imposed quarantine after the Senate went on a recess last March 11.
He said he and members of his family also went anew on quarantine last March 24 after he attended a special session of Congress that enacted the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act in response to the national health emergency.
The billionaire legislator deplored the public announcement made by the Dasmariñas Village Association headed by Rosanna Hwang calling on him, his family and household to go on quarantine.
He said his family received the letter from the association after he was seen in video clips posted on Face book in a party with Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, president of the PDP-Laban.
The party was held at Sen. Pacquiao’s residence in Dasmariñas village.
Sen. Pimentel admitted that the Department of Health (DOH) informed him that he was COVID-19 positive when he was at the Makati Medical Center last March 24 to escort his pregnant wife, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel.
Since the enforcement of enhanced community quarantine measures by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Pacquiao said that the importance of wealth and money has been reduced significantly.
‘’Kahit ang dami mong pera, wala kang mabili, kasi lahat sarado. Kahit anong ganda ng kotse mo ngayon, wala kang mapuntahan. Kahit LV (Louis Vitton) o Gucci pa suot mo, nasa bahay ka lang din naman,’’ he said.
(Even if you have wads of money, you cannot buy anything because stores are closed, and you are forced to stay home anyway. What good is an LV or Gucci attire when you are locked in your own home?)
He called on the people to use the current quarantine as an opportunity to devote quiet time for personal reflection and for strengthening one’s faith.
“Ipangako mo sa sarili mo, after ng lahat ng ito, you will build your relationship with God, because that’s the only thing that is truly valuable,’’ (Promise to yourself that after this crisis…), he added.
