QC: 10 new COVID-19 cases, total now 97; 14 deaths, 9 recoveries

By Chito Chavez The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) reported a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city, with an additional10 new cases bringing the number to 97 as of 7 p.m. of Thursday (March 26) from the previous day’s record of 87. In the same report, the QCHD noted one additional death, raising the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 14. On a positive note, two new patients have recovered, upping the total number of recoveries in the city to nine. The report also indicated that the additional 10 cases are from the following barangays: District 1: Bahay Toro - 1, Mariblo - 1, San Isidro Labrador - 2, San Jose - 1, West Triangle - 1. District 2: Bagong Silangan - 2. District 4: Dona Imelda - 1. District 6: Culiat - 1. The affected barangays with at least one COVID-19 case are the following: District 1: Bagong Pag-asa, Bahay Toro, Bungad, Del Monte, Lourdes, Maharlika, Manresa, Mariblo, Phil-am, Project 6, Ramon Magsaysay, San Antonio, San Isidro Labrador, San Jose, Siena, Sto. Cristo, and West Triangle. District 2: Bagong Silangan and Batasan Hills. District 3: E. Rodriguez, Marilag, Masagana, Matandang Balara, Pansol, San Roque, Socorro, Ugong Norte, West Kamias, and White Plains. District 4: Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, Damayang Lagi, Don Manuel, Doña Imelda, Horseshoe, Immaculate Concepcion, Kalusugan, Kristong Hari, Paligsahan, Pinyahan, Sacred Heart, San Isidro Galas, San Martin de Porres, South Triangle, Tatalon, and Valencia. District 5: Bagbag, Fairview, Kaligayahan, and Pasong Putik. District 6: Culiat, Pasong Tamo, Sauyo, and Tandang Sora. As of 7 p.m. Thursday, the Quezon City government is implementing extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) in the following barangays: Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central(*), San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, and Bahay Toro (added on March 26). Mayor Joy Belmonte explained that Barangay Central does not have COVID-19 patients, but was placed under EECQ due to the presence of numerous hospitals along East Avenue. Food pack distribution As of 7 p.m. Thursday, the local government has already distributed 595,000 food packs. Decontamination efforts The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Quezon City Fire Department have continuously disinfected the city’s streets and highways. As of Thursday, 51 barangays were disinfected as part of the simultaneous decontamination operations. Liquor ban in QC On Thursday, Belmonte signed Executive Order No. 24, series of 2020 or the Liquor Ban in Quezon City which took effect on March 26 and will last until the end of the government's enhanced community quarantine. The ordinance prohibits all persons, entities, and establishments from selling, distributing, and providing any liquor, wine, beer, or any similar alcoholic products. Accommodation for health workers The Quezon City government has partnered with Rainbow Place Dormitory to provide frontliners experiencing discrimination at their places of residence a temporary place to stay as they lead the fight against COVID-19. The dormitory offered 80 rooms for health workers and frontliners from multiple public and private hospitals. QC Price Council monitors market prices The Quezon City Price Coordinating Council has assiduously inspected and monitored markets in the city to ensure that there will be no overpricing or hoarding.
