Bocaue mayor moves to protect rice mill workers from being infected by COVID-19

BOCAUE, Bulacan -- To protect the rice mill workers from being infected by the viral disease that might disrupt the continuous rice processing operations in the trading centers, Mayor Eleanor “Joni” Villanueva-Tugna ordered the massive disinfection of the premises, vehicles and personnel of two major rice trading centers in this town.

(Facebook / Bocaue PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) Tugna said she has ordered the municipal environment and natural resources officer (MENRO) to coordinate with the officials of the Golden City Business Park and Intercity Industrial Park, and provide them with supplies and sprayers on their assigned personnel to disinfect all vehicles entering the rice trading centers. She said, the two rice trading centers are the major supplier of the staple grain to residents of Metro Manila and adjacent provinces, and have more or less 200 rice mills. "I already sought manpower augmentation from the private sector.Sa lawak po kasi at sa dami ng barangay, kulang po sa manpower,” Tugna added. Meanwhile, Rose Dalangin, president of the Golden City Business Park, confirmed that MENRO personnel has started spraying disinfectants to vehicles entering their trading center. The Bocaue MENRO will do the disinfecting operations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the guards of Golden City will take over the disinfection from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.. Besides the disinfection of the vehicles entering the rice trading center, Dalangin also said that all persons entering the trading center undergo thermal scanning, and those registering fevers are not allowed to enter its premises. Social distancing and alcohol disinfection from time to time are also being observed by rice mill personnel and rice traders, Dalangin added.
