The Department of Education (DepEd) has provided grading and transmutation templates for schools that are unable to administer the 4th quarter examination due to suspensions in their areas amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Education Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua
(Alain Del Pascua official Facebook page / MANILA BULLETIN) DepEd Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua issued a memorandum on the templates in support to DepEd Memorandum No. 42 series of 2020 or the Guidelines for the Remainder of School Year 2019-2020 in Light of COVID-19 Measures. Pascua said that in schools that were unable to administer the 4th quarter examination due to suspension of classes, the fourth quarter grade of learners “will be based on class standing composed of written work and performance tasks.” The templates available include those for grades 1 to 10; senior high school – academic track, and senior high school – TVL, sports and arts, and design tracks. The templates may be downloaded from http://bit.ly/Q4GradingTemplate Pascua said that “teachers may input the names of the learners, raw scores, and highest possible scores for written work and performance tasks.” Meanwhile, he added that the “template will compute the percentage score, weighted score, and transmuted grade based on the weights and transmutation table” provided by DepEd. Earlier, DepEd announced that public schools covered by class suspensions will no longer be required to hold the final or 4th quarter examinations, scheduled from March 16 to 20, for their learners. Further academic requirements, if any, shall be done as home-based assignments, said DepEd in Memo No. 42 s. 2020. DepEd clarified that in areas where classes have been suspended by relevant national or local authorities covering the exam week and “thus preventing the holding” of the exams, the 4th quarter examination “will no longer be administered.” DepEd noted that the affected schools shall apply the “grading formula” prescribed by the agency for the “computation of the final grades for the 4th quarter.” As announced by President Duterte earlier, classes in all levels in Metro Manila schools have been suspended until April 14. Other provinces and towns with recorded confirmed cases of COVID-19 also declared suspension of classes.
