Batanes cancels Payuhuan Festival, other provincial-wide events due to COVID-19 threat

BATANES – The provincial government of Batanes has ordered the cancelation of this year’s Payuhuan Festival, and postponement of other province-wide celebration in the entire island due to the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to a statement, all activities planned for the celebration of Batanes foundation day were cancelled except for a simple commemorative program slated on June 26.
The Women’s Month Celebration and other related activities, Provincial Youth Summit, and the Solo Parents Congress were also suspended as part of the province’s precautionary measures against the disease.
In addition, all other tentatively scheduled activities in Batanes with huge attendance will be postponed until further notice from the authority.
The provincial government also advised local government units and national government agencies to cancel or to postpone all their scheduled and proposed activities or occasions that require mass participation, and with resource persons or visitors from mainland Luzon.
