P2.1-B coastal road that will connect international and national sea ports fast-tracked

BUTUAN CITY – As part of efforts to ensure the economic growth of Northeastern Mindanao, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the groundworks for an access road that will directly connect Nasipit International Sea Port to the Masao National Sea Port Road in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
“When completed, this will surely boost the economic growth in Caraga region,” stressed DPWH 13 Regional Director Engr. Pol M. Delos Santos, in an exclusive interview with The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
5.79 kilometer Nasipit – Buenavista – Masao Port Coastal Road project
(DPWH / MANILA BULLETIN) In a progress report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, Director Selos Santos said the economic road project, costing P2.1 billion, would include the ongoing 5.79 kilometer Nasipit – Buenavista – Masao Port Coastal Road project. road opening and 18.90-kilometer road upgrading from Nasipit International Sea Port Road to Butuan City - Masao Sea Port Road, with provision of drainage, slope protection, and road safety devices is now almost 30 percent completed. The project also includes construction of four permanent bridges with a total length of 635.79 linear meters, also provision of drainage and slope protection structures/facilities with road safety devices. The project also involves 6.51 km road opening and upgrading (gravel to paved) of 19.33 km from Nasipit Port Road (S00392MN) K1263 + 804 to Butuan City - Masao Port Road (S00434MN) K1249 + 128. The road project will directly connect Nasipit International Port to Masao National Port Road without traversing the busy Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road (BCIR). “This road project will really enhance the services, accessibility and mobility of people and goods going in and out of Agusan del Norte thru the Internationalized Nasipit Port and Masao Sea Port,” stressed further Director Delos Santos. This economic road project is also envisioned to provide infrastructure support to the fast-growing traffic buildup along (BCIR). This will provide an alternate route from BCIR (Nasipit Section) to Daang Maharlika (Surigao-Agusan Section) when connected to the on-going Nasipit-Buenavista-Masao Port Road, he said Delos Santos also told Villar that the road project, when completed in 2022, will also address the increasing traffic buildup along Butuan – Cagayan de Oro – Iligan Road (BCIR) and will improve accessibility and mobility of people and goods going in and out of the province through Nasipit Port. The Nasipit – Buenavista – Masao Port Coastal Road will also serve as an alternate route from BCIR to the Surigao-Agusan section of Daang Maharlika road, Delos Santos added.
